Starlink Satellite Rentals in Western Canada

No lines on site? Cell signal dropping to one bar the second you leave the highway? Out here, that's normal. From lease roads in Alberta to cabins in the BC interior, a lot of the places we live, work and play were never built for high-speed internet.

That's where a Starlink Rental from Wi-Com comes in. Rent a kit for a week, a month or longer, set it up in minutes, and get online anywhere you have a clear view of the sky.

Who Rents Starlink in Alberta and BC?

Pretty much anyone who needs internet where it doesn't normally reach. Here's who we see most:

  • Construction and industrial job sites. Bring internet to site trailers and crews where there are no lines and cell coverage is weak. (More on our construction communications work.)
  • Oil and gas, work camps and field offices. Connect remote camps, field offices and temporary buildings for email, video calls and cloud apps.
  • Film, livestreams and events. Upload footage, livestream an event or run point-of-sale terminals away from venue Wi-Fi. Wi-Com also supports film and television productions.
  • RVs, camping, cabins and sailing. Stay online at the campsite, the cabin or on the water, from a backcountry trip in the Rockies to a season on the lake.
  • Working from home with poor internet. Acreage or rural property with slow service? A rental gives you a real connection, short or long term.
  • Emergency response. When local networks go down, a Starlink kit makes a strong backup.

Starlink Standard vs Starlink Mini

Wi-Com rents two kits. Not sure which fits? Tell us where and how you'll use it and we'll recommend the right one for your dates.

What Comes in the Box

The Starlink Standard kit arrives with everything you need to get online in minutes:

  • Starlink dish
  • Kickstand
  • Router 3
  • Starlink cable, 15 m (49.2 ft)
  • AC cable, 1.5 m (4.92 ft)
  • Power supply, 1.5 m (4.92 ft)

The Starlink Mini kit includes the Mini dish with built-in Wi-Fi, kickstand, pipe adapter and flat mount, DC power cable, power supply and Starlink plug.

How Renting Works

  1. Tell us your dates. Share your location, dates and how many people need to connect.
  2. We prepare your kit. It comes ready to go, with a Wi-Com Wi-Fi network and password.
  3. Set up in minutes. Place the dish outside with a clear view of the sky and plug it in. It aligns itself.
  4. Get online. Connect to the Wi-Com Wi-Fi network, enter the password provided and start working.

Pro tip: download the Starlink app before you go. It checks for obstructions like trees and buildings and helps you find the best spot for your dish.

Built for Canadian Weather

Alberta winters and mountain storms don't play nice, so this matters. Starlink says its dishes are engineered to melt snow and withstand sleet, heavy rain and harsh winds. Both kits are rated:

  • IP67 Type 4
  • Operating from -30°C to 50°C
  • Operational in winds of 96 km/h+ (60 mph+)

Set It Up Your Way, Wherever You Stop

Wherever you park, camp or set up, there's a mounting option. Set the dish on its kickstand on the ground, mount it on a trailer, cabin or building roof, raise it above the trees on a pipe or mast, or carry the Mini in a backpack. Ask our team which mounts are available with your rental.

Coverage Across Alberta and BC

Starlink delivers broadband through the world's largest satellite constellation, in 160+ countries, territories and other markets, including places where high-speed internet has been too expensive, unreliable or unavailable. Starlink lists speeds of up to 300+ Mbps for internet on the go. Speeds aren't guaranteed and will be slower during times of congestion.

Wi-Com has local teams across the region, including Calgary, Cochrane, Canmore and Lethbridge in Alberta, and Kelowna, Kamloops and Whistler in BC. See all Wi-Com locations.

Heading somewhere with no service at all? Pair your Starlink with satellite phones, GPS and AVL, a satellite phone rental or a satellite messenger rental for backup.
